Bevel Chair

The first piece in the Résonance trio, the Bevel Chair draws its inspiration from the bottoms of Calvados barrels. Long, parallel pieces with elongated bevels form the imposing faces of the barrels when laid down. The chair is built around a rigorous exploration of geometry and perception. Its structure incorporates slight variations in angle, around two degrees, almost imperceptible up close, but which, from a distance, give it a more monumental, almost architectural presence, evoking a form of almost liturgical verticality. Several elements contribute to this ambiguous interpretation: a slightly trapezoidal seat perceived as square depending on the viewpoint; structural lines that appear parallel while being subtly deviated; and generous sections progressively refined by bevels. A double backrest, oriented along three axes, offers variable viewing points and invites the eye to explore the piece from different angles. The piece develops a tension between visual richness and geometric precision. The wood grain creates an impression of movement, while sharp edges and extremely refined surfaces introduce a surface quality almost comparable to that of glass. French oak, hardwax oil finish.
